International Young Authors Competition




Phoenix Sister Cities invites residents of Phoenix and residents of our nine sister cities, ages 13 through 18, to enter the International Young Authors Competition. The purpose of the International Young Authors Competition is to encourage youth to interpret and express the international theme in a creative and innovative manner.

All participants receive a certificate of participation and three winners are selected from each category. (Grand prize, 2nd, and 3rd)

The winning pieces are published on the Sister Cities International website and Newsletter. The top two winners will also win a spot in the International Young Artists Showcase Tour for a chance to win $1,000.





2012 International Young Author Showcase Winner




Cambrea Braudaway

Cambrea Braudaway, a Phoenix resident and 2012 Youth Ambassador to Phoenix’s sister city Calgary, Canada, was selected as a winner for the poetry competition. Braudaway’s poem, entitled “As Youth we Can”, notes the positive influence that today’s youth can have by utilizing technology to connect and change the world. As a contest winner, Braudaway received complimentary registration to the Sister Cities International Annual Youth Leadership Conference as well as a $1,000 cash prize. Her work was displayed at the Sister Cities International conference in Jacksonville, Florida. Read her poem here.

2009 International Young Author Showcase Winner




Cathy Landry

Ms. Landry, a 2009 Phoenix Sister Cities Youth Ambassador, is a 17-year-old from Phoenix who just entered her senior year at Xavier College Prep Academy. She competed against youth from around the world who submitted essays and poetry that expressed the Sister Cities International's mission to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation. Ms. Landry won the grand prize and was awarded $1,200. Her poem was published in the Sister Cities Newsletter and is a part of the International Young Artists Showcase Tour.
