The capital of Taiwan, Taipei enjoys a strong economy and has a GNP of more than $160 billion. With a population of more than 21 million people, Taipei is a major producer of high-tech components. It also imports consumer goods, services, and luxury goods. Following the participation of a Phoenix paddling team in Taipei’s Dragon Boat Festival, the Phoenix Sister Cities Taipei Committee supported local community leaders and boating enthusiasts in establishing the Arizona Dragon Boat Association and its annual Arizona Dragon Boat Festival. In recognition of the Sister Cities relationship, the Taipei city government contributed two authentic dragon boats to Phoenix Sister Cities. The current chairperson of the Taipei Committee is Mrs. Lin Ling Lee.
