Calgary is the largest city in the Province of Alberta, and the third largest municipality in Canada. The city is located in the south Grassland region of Alberta, approximately 50 miles east of the front ranges of the Rockies. Hermosillo was the first to become a Sister City of Phoenix in 1976. It is the capital of the state of Sonora, which borders Arizona. It was recently featured on ArchDaily, the world’s most visited architecture website, for it’s Parque La Ruina, a large modern industrial social space with green areas, food stalls, and outdoor entertainment.

Himeji was the second city to be formally recognized as a Phoenix Sister City in 1976. It is known as the home of the Himeji Castle, widely considered the most beautiful castle in Japan. The city is located along the Seto Inland Sea some 40 miles west of Kobe, which is the capital of Hyogo Prefecture. A day trip from Osaka, Himeji has a diverse food, shopping and entertainment scene.
